I’ve always thought that I never cared for fish. I didn’t like to eat them, didn’t like to see them, etc, until I saw those giant Arapaimas in Beijing Zoo. The next thing I knew, I found this picture of a Napolean Wrasse on the Internet. Then I realized that I just don’t care for fish that aren’t big enough.
Napolean Wrasse, AKA Maori or Humphead Wrasse, is a fairly common resident in aquariums. Swimming in tanks near Nemo (Clown Fish) and Dory (Blue Tang), this fish is identified by its semi-shiny blue colors and retarded appearance (not an official description…):
Although all aquariums I’ve been to have this fish at 1-2 feet in length, according to Wikipedia it can grow up to 6 feet. But apparently that’s not a hard limit. Check out this following photograph:
That thing is massive! To its left is a diver; and unless he’s a midget, this fish’s gotta be over 10 feet in length! Yeah I’d be scared to swim with that thing, but big fish is so cool!
Here’s the photographer’s (Russian) blog.
