Pacific Islands (3/10) – Island Eats

Pacific Islands (3/10) – Island Eats

This is a food post.

Delicious feasts wasn’t something I anticipated coming to Hawaii.  The last time we came here (well, Maui), we had excessively mediocre food.  And it kind of made sense: with the state being a resource-constrained bunch of islands, the variety and quality of ingredients simply could not compete with the major cities around the world.  However, I was pleasantly surprised.  From local staples to nice restaurants, we had some fairly yummy experiences.

The kids were not disappointed

For our last night in Hawaii, we made a reservation to celebrate the grandparents’ 40th anniversary, the primary reason/excuse for this nice vacation.  We struggled for a while pinning down a restaurant as it was tough to find a place nice, comfortable, and accommodating to the taste buds across three generations.  We almost went with the Cheesecake Factory as a known safe bet, although that would’ve also been lame.  Finally we went with Benihana, which was equally touristy and all-American, but more special.  The added benefit was that it was on site at the HGVC complex, a short walk away from our room.  It turned out to be a fun meal and a nice conclusion to the trip.
